Music Discovery: Dubstep

These two songs lured me into really diggin’ the sub-culture of dubstep music (audio thunder).

“Hold On” by Rusko

  Hold On
  Hold On (Sub Focus Remix)
  Hold On (Paul Oakenfold Remix)

The first track, “Hold On”, was background music in a video a friend of mine posted online. I played a bit of online detective and tracked down the artist and title. As with many ‘digital’ music genres, there are several remixes. I personally like Rusko’s original best, although the Sub-Focus cut is quite nice.

“Cinema” by Benny Benassi

  Cinema

I’m not exactly sure where I discovered this Skrillex remix of Benassi’s “Cinema”, but man that’s one hot track. I love the floaty nature of the drums and punctuated melody on the chorus.
With dubstep I often get hooked into the sweet melodies, interested by the fresh beats, and then blasted with raw, guttural Womp-Womp-Womps. It’s a real interesting musical recipe that I’m not sure I could stomach on a consistent basis, but I’m good for a few tracks at a time. It’s so fresh, so creative. It sets my imagination going with visuals that can range from sparkly, gritty, organic, floaty, etc. Is this tripping?

Are you well-versed in dubstep? Knowing that I like these two tracks, have any suggestions to other dubstep tracks or artists?
